Aongatete Loop Walk
New Zealand

Aongatete Loop Walk is just 1/2 hr from your accommodation in Tauranga in native New Zealand bush. This is the home of the “Bring Back the Birds” restoration project. We get to see the seed collecting trays, the deer eXclosure and various types of bait stations used by the volunteers.

There is the opportunity to “Volunteer for a day”. This experience is dependant on the schedule of the baiting programme, but is a great challenge for those wanting to get off the beaten track in a safe way.

If we don’t strike a pest control work day, then we take a walk along the little more used path up through regenerating native bush, where tall trees still exist, hear a little of the history of the occupancy of the area, and learn something of the uses of some of the plants we see along the way. This is a moderate 2 hrs to stream, where we have lunch, then continue around the loop and back to the car park.

By popular demand we offer a wine tasting at a local vineyard on the way back to your accommodation.
