Rimu Track and Whataroa Falls

The Rimu Track and Whataroa Falls walk takes you through native New Zealand bush where you will be told lots of the plants and trees names by your guide. It's a good walk for increasing knowledge of bush plants in NZ.

Type of walk: Lowland Bush

Time, overall:

3 1/2 hr from Tauranga, including travel time
Walking for 2 hr plus lunch stop of 1/2 hr.
Leave Tauranga 10am, back at 2pm

Track conditions:

Route easy to follow, the walking is mainly flat with only a few short steeper sections.

Grading/Fitness required:

Leisurely - able to walk unaided over uneven ground.

Recommendations:

Walk is all in bush so OK for hot sunny day.

Points of interest:

  • Lots of the plants and trees have names so it’s a good walk for increasing knowledge of bush plants.
  • The walk starts from the car park on Mountain Rd
  • Toilet just along track on other side of road
  • Golf course and fruit shop at end of road – should you have room more for in your day.

Leisurely: Mainly flat, a fairly slow walk
