This is an all day walk. Generally leaving Tauranga at 9:30am and returning at 4.30-5.30pm

Track conditions

Route easy to follow. Track narrow in places along the river, level on the pack tracks

Recommendations

Take swimming togs on a hot sunny day as there may be an opportunity for a swim in a natural river.

  • Self acting incline used for gold ore extraction
  • Visit the Old Bendigo Gold Stamper Battery.
  • Shops and cafes in the nearby historic town of Te Aroha, locally famous as having the only hot soda water geyser in the world.

The Wairongomai Low Level Loop is a Leisurely graded walk.

We have also developed Moderate Grade  and Energetic Grade versions for hiking this historic walkway.
